OPTCL POWER TRAINING CENTRE:

OPTCL Power Training Centre earlier known as the Core Skill Training Centre, located within the premises of 220KV Grid Sub-Station, Chandaka, and Bhubaneswar funded by DFID was inaugurated on 1.1.1996. On the Job Trainer’s training was provided to 160 OJTs of four Distribution Companies of the state. The core areas of the Distribution Lineman training covers Line and Sub-station planning, construction and maintenance of Line and sub-stations (up to 33KV).
 

Emphasis was given on the practical use of modern tools, which provide remarkable reduction of down time in the event of power supply interruptions. Thus the earlier training center was exclusively a Distribution Training Centre, catering to the core skill development requirement of the Distribution sector.
Subsequently, the Training Centre has been operating as a profit center, and it has the credit of imparting training to the Engineers and Technicians of the following organisations :

  • ANDHRA PRADESH DISTRIBUTION COMPANY.

  • ORISSA HYDRO POWER CORPORATION.

  • FERRO ALLOYS, JODA (TATA STEEL).

  • HINDUSTAN AERONAUTICS LTD.

  • CENTRAL ELECTRICITY SUPPLY UTILITY (erstwhile CESCO)

  • INDIAN RARE EARTHS LTD.

  • OPGC

  • DIRECTORATE OF TECHNICAL EDUCATION & TRAINING

  • WESCO, NESCO, SOUTHCO

Besides, vocational training for Degree/Diploma Engineering /ITI students is also conducted on regular basis every year.

The training center is upgraded with the assistance of DFID and equipped with necessary infrastructure equipment and training aids to meet the training requirement of engineers and technicians involved in construction and maintenance of transmission lines and sub-stations of OPTCL.

  Some of the Training Programmes for engineers conducted at OPTCL Power Training Centre are:

  • Operation Maintenance of Transmission Lines and Sub-station.
  • Role of shift engineers in EHT Sub-stations.
  • Power System Operation.
  • OPTCL Power System and Role of SLDC.
  • Induction-cum-orientation for Management Trainees.

Familiarisation with ABT (Availability Based Tariff) based Grid Operation. Training Programme for Transmission Technicians are also conducted with emphasis on practical demonstration.

OPTCL Power Training Centre, Chandaka has been approved by Central Electricity Authority, Govt. of India as Category-I training Centre.

The training centre is being declared by ELBO, Orissa as an approved examination centre for conducting statutory licensing examinations.

It is proposed to organize specialized Training Programmes on sophisticated EHT Equipment, PLCC the SCADA System.

OPTCL MANAGEMENT TRAINING CENTRE:

The Management Training Centre is located in the heart of the city- Bhubaneswar. It has two Lecture Halls, Two Syndicate Rooms, One Library Hall and a Computer Center. Various Behavioural Training Programmes for various levels of Executives are conducted at the Training Centre. The Computer Center is utilized for imparting computer awareness trainings. 262 Training Programmes have been conducted and 3061 Executives and 446 Non-executives were trained in the Training Centre by March 2003.
 

We also take pride in the fact that the training pedagogy and methodologies adopted provide a unique blend of theoretical inputs and skills necessary for the overall development of the personnel deployed.
