II. TECHNICAL - TRANSMISSION SYSTEM

1. Layout of Sub-Station
- Layout location of 220/132/33KV S/S.
- Major Equipment used together with specifications.
Busbars:-
-Indoor and outdoor busbars – their capacity forces on them during short circuit – bus-bar mountings and their clearances.
- Strung and tubular type busbars, their current ratings supports, jumpers, clearance
- Bus fittings and connectors.

Isolators :
 Tilting and rotating isolators with & without arcing horns – earth blades – current ratings.
 Breaking of circuits by isolators.
 Interlocking with circuit Breaker.
 Maintenance of isolators.

Insulators : Types - their electrical & mechanical characteristics.

2. Transformer :

- Basic principles of transformer, magnetisation and hysteresis, electromagnets.
- Flux density Ampere-turn Ratio – Equation for transformation
-Two/ three winding & Auto Transformer – Grounding transformers – silent features of core & shell type, transformer constructional details.
-Transformer fixtures – buchholz relay, breather, conservators, bushing of different types, thermometers, indicators, alarms.
-Cooling of Transformer, Importance of Oil Filtration & drying out of transformer.
- Working principles of OLTC & its’ O/M.
-Transformer Test - Failures and causes, maint. & repairs.
- Operation:- Parallel Operation – regulation, voltage control, - tap changing -
-Commissioning test
- Maint. of Transformer

3. Breakers

- Function of breakers.
-Different types of indoor and outdoor breakers e.g. Bulk oil, MOCB, Air blast, SF6 and Vacuum Breaker - principle and their application.
-Operating Mechanism – springs, hydraulic, pneumatic
- Current ratings, rupturing capacity, clearance time
-Commissioning procedures.
- Breaker Maintenance, failures and their causes.

4. Lightening Arrestors/Surge Arrestors

- Simple description of lightening phenomena and surges.

5. Transformer Oil.

9. Auxiliary Supply & Battery

10. Transmission Line
